Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Vegetable oil, for frying

Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter may be a bit lumpy, and that’s okay!

Fill a deep skillet or frying pan with about 2 inches of vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Once the oil is hot, transfer the batter to a piping bag or a squeeze bottle with a wide opening.

Carefully squeeze the batter into the hot oil, creating long, crisscross patterns or spirals to form sticks. Fry only a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.

Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the funnel cake sticks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

Once all the sticks are fried, dust them generously with powdered sugar.

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious crispy funnel cake sticks!
