Crispy Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

12 mozzarella string cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style for extra flavor)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Marinara sauce (for serving)

Instructions
 

Prep the Cheese: Cut each mozzarella stick in half to create 24 shorter sticks. This will allow for easier handling and frying.

    Set Up Breading Station: In three separate bowls, prepare the coating. Place flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl until smooth, and combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

      Coat the Cheese Sticks: Dredge each mozzarella stick first in the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour. Next, dip it into the beaten egg, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs adhere well. Repeat this process for all the cheese sticks.

        Freeze the Coated Sticks: Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze them for about 30 minutes. This helps to firm them up and prevents the cheese from melting too quickly.

          Preheat the Air Fryer: While the sticks are chilling, preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

            Air Fry the Sticks: After freezing, spray the mozzarella sticks lightly with cooking spray. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don't touch to allow for even cooking. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches.

              Cook: Air fry the mozzarella sticks for about 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent burning, and shake the basket halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
