For the Cream Puff Layer:

1 cup water

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

4 large eggs

For the Cream Filling:

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Ganache:

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions
 

Prepare the Cream Puff Layer:

    - Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

      - In a saucepan, bring the water and butter to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat.

        - Stir in the flour and salt until a dough forms. Return to low heat and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan.

          - Remove the pan from heat and allow the dough to cool for a few minutes. Once slightly cooled, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth and glossy.

            - Drop tablespoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.

              - Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffy and golden brown. Turn off the oven and leave the door ajar to let them cool completely.

                Make the Cream Filling:

                  - In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.

                    - Once the cream puffs have cooled, slice each puff in half and fill with the whipped cream mixture.

                      Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:

                        - In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.

                          - Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth and fully combined.

                            Assemble the Cake:

                              - In a serving dish, place a layer of filled cream puffs in a circle to form the first layer.

                                - Drizzle some chocolate ganache over the filled puffs.

                                  - Repeat layering with remaining cream puffs, ganache, and whipped cream in any order you desire.

                                    - Finish with a final drizzle of ganache on top and sprinkle with any additional toppings such as chocolate shavings, nuts, or fresh berries.

                                      Chill & Serve:

                                        - Refrigerate the layered cream puff cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
