Ingredients

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for crumble topping)

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and 1 tablespoon of flour. Toss until the apples are well coated. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9-inch baking dish.

In another bowl, combine rolled oats, 1/2 cup flour, and chopped walnuts (if using). Add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
