Ingredients

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)

4 cups bread flour (plus extra for dusting)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for greasing)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup melted butter

Marinara sauce (for dipping, optional)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.

Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

First Rise: Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).

Shape Breadsticks: Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle approximately 12x8 inches. Cut into strips about 1 inch wide.

Second Rise: Place the strips onto a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each stick. Cover them again with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: While the breadsticks are rising, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes, and melted butter.

Bake Breadsticks: After the second rise, brush the dough with the seasoned butter mixture and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
