Ingredients

2 English muffins

2 large eggs

2 slices of Canadian bacon

2 slices of American cheese (or cheddar)

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: a dash of hot sauce (for added flavor)

Instructions

Toast the English Muffins: Split the English muffins in half and toast them until golden brown. You can use a toaster or a skillet for this step.

Cook the Canadian Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, add the Canadian bacon slices and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are heated through and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Eggs: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to low. Crack one egg into the skillet, making sure to keep the yolk intact. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. To achieve that classic round shape, you can use an egg ring or a muffin ring that fits in your skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the whites are set but the yolk is still runny (or to your preferred doneness).

Add Cheese: In the last minute of cooking the egg, place a slice of cheese on top of the egg and cover the skillet briefly with a lid to melt the cheese.

Assemble the McMuffin: Spread half of the butter on one half of the toasted English muffin. Place a slice of Canadian bacon on the muffin, followed by the cheesy egg. Cap it off with the other half of the English muffin. Repeat the process for the second muffin.

Serve: Serve hot with a dash of hot sauce on the side if desired. Enjoy your homemade Egg McMuffin with some fresh fruit or hash browns for a complete breakfast!
