Cinnamon Sugar French Toast Bites

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 loaf of thick-cut bread (such as brioche or Texas toast)

3 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frying)

A pinch of salt

Maple syrup or honey (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Cut the loaf of bread into bite-sized cubes (around 1-inch pieces). Set aside.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and salt until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Add the bread cubes to the egg mixture, gently folding to coat each piece in the mixture. Allow the bread to soak for about 5-10 minutes so it can absorb some liquid.

Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Cook the French Toast Bites: In a large skillet or griddle, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted and sizzling, add the soaked bread cubes in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.

Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Once cooked, immediately remove the bites from the skillet and toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.

Serve: Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar (if desired), accompanied by maple syrup or honey for dipping.
