Ingredients

For the Chicken Marinade:

1 ½ lbs chicken breast, diced into bite-sized pieces

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 egg, beaten

For the Chicken Coating:

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup cornstarch

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)

For the Sauce:

½ cup honey

¼ cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 garlic clove, minced

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine diced chicken with soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and beaten egg. Mix well to coat all pieces evenly and let it marinate for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Coating: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

Coat the Chicken: After marinating, take each piece of chicken and dredge it in the flour mixture, ensuring a good coat.

Fry the Chicken: In a large skillet or wok, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Make the Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.

Combine: Add the fried chicken to the saucepan and gently toss to coat all pieces in the sauce.

Serve: Transfer the sesame chicken to a serving plate, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and garnish with sliced green onions.

Enjoy your homemade sweet and crunchy sesame chicken!
