Ingredients

1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and chopped

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup water

1 cup sweetened condensed milk

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional, for added texture)

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped cherries, granulated sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the cherries are softened and the mixture is syrupy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

In a large bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Gradually fold in the cherry mixture into the cocoa mixture until evenly incorporated.

Slowly add the powdered sugar, mixing until the mixture forms a thick dough. If using, fold in the chopped nuts at this stage for added crunch.

Line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan, pressing down firmly to pack it tightly.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours or until firm.

Once set, lift the candy out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares or rectangles using a sharp knife.

Store the Cherry Mash Candy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or at room temperature for a few days, depending on your preference.
