Buttery Croissant Bread Pudding with Jam

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

6 large buttery croissants, day-old preferred

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon almond extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup assorted jam (e.g., raspberry, strawberry, or apricot)

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Fresh berries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Croissants: Tear the croissants into large pieces and arrange them evenly in the greased baking dish.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt until well combined.

Combine Croissants and Custard: Pour the custard mixture over the torn croissants, ensuring they are all well-coated. Gently press the croissant pieces down into the custard so they soak it up. Allow it to sit for about 15-20 minutes.

Add the Jam: Dollop the assorted jam over the custard-soaked croissants, pressing it gently with a spoon to swirl it in without fully mixing.

Bake: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, and optionally, garnish with fresh berries for an extra touch.

Enjoy: Slice and serve warm as a delightful dessert or a comforting breakfast treat!
