Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Make Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into 1-inch meatballs.

Brown Meatballs: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 5-7 minutes. They don’t need to be cooked through, just browned.

Prepare Casserole Dish: In a large baking dish, spread half of the marinara sauce on the bottom.

Layer Ingredients: Place the browned meatballs in a single layer over the marinara sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and black olives (if using).

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish & Serve: Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve hot with a side of garlic bread or over pasta.
