Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder (optional for fluffiness)

1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder (if using). Whisk until well blended.

Add the vegetable oil or melted butter to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a fork to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually pour in the warm water while mixing with your other hand or a fork until a soft dough begins to form.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and shape them into balls. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.

Take one ball of dough, flatten it gently with your fingers, and then use a rolling pin to roll it into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter. Keep the surface lightly floured to prevent sticking.

Place the flattened tortilla on the hot skillet and cook for about 30 seconds, or until bubbles form and the bottom is lightly browned. Flip and cook for another 30 seconds.

Remove the tortilla and place it in a clean kitchen towel to keep warm. Repeat this process for the remaining dough balls.

Serve warm with your favorite fillings or use for tacos, enchiladas, or quesadillas. Enjoy your fresh, homemade tortillas!
