Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup pecans, chopped

For the Caramel Sauce:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of sea salt

For Topping:

1/2 cup pecans, toasted and roughly chopped

Sea salt flakes (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Batter:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar until fully blended.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans.

Bake the Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter). Don’t overbake!

              Prepare the Caramel Sauce:

                - In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar melts and turns a deep amber color.

                  - Once the sugar is melted, carefully add the butter and stir until melted. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, continuing to stir while the mixture bubbles and thickens.

                    - Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt. Let it cool for a few minutes.

Assemble the Brownies: Once the brownies are out of the oven and slightly cooled, pour the caramel sauce over the top, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the toasted pecans on top and add a few extra sea salt flakes if desired.

Final Bake: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the caramel to set slightly.

Cool and Serve: Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. For cleaner cuts, chill them in the refrigerator for a short time before slicing.

Enjoy: Serve these decadent brownies promptly and watch them disappear!
