Ingredients

4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp smoked paprika

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp onion powder

2 tsp salt

1 tsp ground pepper

1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

1 cup chicken broth

1 onion, sliced

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

8 burger buns

Coleslaw (for serving)

Pickles (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Pork: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and ground pepper to create a spice rub.

Season the Meat: Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's evenly coated.

Cook the Pork: Place the sliced onion in the bottom of a slow cooker. Add the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions. Pour the chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce over the pork.

Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low heat for about 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

Shred the Meat: Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the meat into pieces.

Mix with BBQ Sauce: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the BBQ sauce, mixing until well combined. Let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to meld the flavors.

Toast the Buns: While the pork is melded, spend a few minutes toasting the burger buns on a hot skillet or in the oven until golden brown.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Generously spoon the pulled pork mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, add coleslaw on top, and finish with pickles if desired. Place the top bun over the filling.

Serve: Serve the sandwiches hot with extra BBQ sauce on the side and enjoy!
