Ingredients

1 cup ripe bananas (about 2 medium, mashed)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Prepare the Banana Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. You can use a fork or a potato masher. Add the softened butter and mix until well combined.

Cream the Sugars: Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar to the banana-butter mixture. Mix well until the mixture is creamy and slightly fluffy.

Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated into the mixture.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix!

Fold in Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop the Dough: Using a cookie scoop or two spoons, drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake Cookies: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look set.

Cool the Cookies: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve and Enjoy: Once the cookies are cooled, serve them with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage.
