Ingredients

3 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)

1 tablespoon granulated sugar (or coconut sugar for a healthier option)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (optional for brightness)

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer, slice the apples very thin, about 1/8 inch thick. Remove the seeds, but keep the peel on for extra flavor and nutrition.

Season the Apple Slices: In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. If you like a hint of acidity, add the lemon juice to the apple slices. Toss the apple slices in the cinnamon mixture until they are evenly coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheets: Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Avoid overlapping to ensure they bake evenly and become crisp.

Bake: Place the baking sheets in the oven and bake for about 1 hour. After 1 hour, flip the apple slices over to promote even crispiness. Continue to bake for an additional 30-60 minutes, checking for doneness periodically. They should be dry and crisp, not chewy.

Cool and Store: Once baked, remove the apple chips from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets. They will become crisper as they cool. Store cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature.
